Genre Research - Get Out

Another suspense film opening scene is from the movie GET OUT. It opens with a man walking down the sidewalk in the middle of the night on the cell phone. He is followed by a car and eventually abducted. Although there is a non-comedic event occurring their choice of background music gives it a light mood and a comedic effect. I don't know anything about the movie and the opening scene gives you very little information, adding to the suspense. The movie grosses over 200 million dollars with a budget of 4.5 million. It also was nominated for 24 awards; some include Critics Choice Award and Empire Award for Best Horror.

Genre Research - The Shining

The first opening scene we looked at is "The Shining". It's genre is a suspense horror theme. I think the director purposefully gave very little information in the first few minutes of the film in order to give people a sense of mystery and get the watcher invested. The first few minutes really just explains that the main characters are going off into a far away location and that they are staying in a hotel. From the trailers you can image what will be happening in the film and all it does is set that up. The shot used was a wide drone shot from several hundred feet into the air. This lets you see the car as well as the lack of civilization in the area from all directions. I really like the simplicity of the opening scene because it gives you an interesting yet unsettling view of the film. The film got multiple awards in its time

Project Selection - My Decision

What I've chosen to do my project on is a film. It seems like the project that I can use former experience to create a great product. It also seems like I can use my imagination and really be free to create any sort of film that I think would really work for this activity. I love the idea of creating a movie with my good friend as well as share ideas with him as we can from a better and better film. We were thinking of doing a suspense and some what dramatic film with a deep story line. I feel we both have different aspects of skill and knowledge when put together can create a masterpiece. Honestly, I believe that a magazine would be an easier task to quickly complete and get a good grade but that's not what I'm trying to do. I am very excited to start the process of making a film and see what we can come up with.

Project Selection - Film

A film would be my first choice considering how much I love to capture things on a camera. I used to video different things involving my everyday life and this seems like a new challenge that involve my interests. I do have a partner in mind is is also very seriously considering  doing a film and we already have a basic idea of a theme. It would be a suspense theme and we would act in it as well. My partner I consideration is someone I trust to put in the effort to create a quality film with a decent idea of editing skills and filming history. We would create the film i school and use our resources given to create the best product in the amount of time we can. I love watching and seeing how movies were created and making one of my own seems like so much fun. Again a film was my first choice because the idea of making a suspense film gravitates toward me more than a magazine.

Project Selection - Magazine

A magazine although not my first choice may be a good challenge and a fun task. I love to write and it does seem like a fun project based just on writing about things that I am interested in. I feel I am quite good at making things that I write about interesting so it might be a good decision off that basis. I have never been really interested in reading magazines so that may cause for a lack for motivation in this project if I was going to do a magazine. I also love things to do with photography and taking pictures for thing magazine sounds like a lot of fun. I have a partner in mind that would be interested in doing one with me and they would be a very good partner to do it with. This project would interest me greatly and it would be a fun task. Again this is not my first choice but it seems like a good challenge and a fun activity
